Using Twitter Data as an Example of Social Media in Evaluation
Here at Hensky we are excited in the potential of Social Media to make a significant contribution to evaluation as a new source of data. This paper is being written for the 2016 Meetings of the Canadian Evaluation Society. The paper provides a brief overview of the use of Social Media and then provides some detailed examples using Twitter. Fortunately, the a rough initial draft is available well before the meeting. Not only does this allow for comments that can improve the paper before the meeting, it also creates the possibility of tracking the changes, if any, in the conclusions as the sample size grows and the methodology improves. This testing of initial conclusions with data that was originally out of sample is we think in the spirit of the new machine learning literature.
